Sleep problems may be associated with different temperament in children. Instead of appearing sleepy, the overtired child may appear overactive and inattentive. A label of “problem child” may be applied early on; once made, it is difficult to shed.

Poor sleep … may cause a child to be more vulnerable to physical illness, may limit parent-child bonding and later interaction, and may affect a child’s self-esteem.
